About us

Hi, I'm Caroline, co-director, creator, and professor at Harry Potter Camp Elmhurst. This camp began, like Camp Half-Blood (our original backyard camp), with the idea that J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is awesome, but it has become so much more.

Let me start by saying I love fantasy and adventure, and always have.  Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and its subsequent novels inspired me to celebrate these books that I love, and to share that love with others. This quickly morphed into the idea of a summer camp based on the school in the novels: Hogwarts. Such a camp would bring the books to life for the kids who attended, and that's the ultimate aim: to get kids excited about reading the way I get excited about reading. I want to share my passion for books, and for the Harry Potter series in particular.

And what's not to get excited about? J.K. Rowling masterfully blends adventure with mystery and life lessons, as well as a bit of romance, so that kids of all ages and interests can enjoy her stories. Through Harry Potter Camp, we can experience all of these things outside the covers of a book (except maybe the romance!). With activities like wand duels and Herbology Class, participating in a Triwizard Tournament and learning to brew potions, there will never be a dull moment at camp!

Our goal is ultimately to make reading and books really cool, beyond what any teacher in a classroom or kid playing by themselves can do. Yes, this requires some money--but Harry Potter Camp is not for profit: the tuition fees go towards the supplies and props, like realistic wands and potion supplies, that complete the Hogwarts experience for your witch or wizard, and your child will even get to take most of these things home with them after the camp session is done. Also, all of our awesome counselors are Harry Potter fans, dedicated to creating the ultimate experience for the campers.

I hope this sounds like an event cool enough for parents and young wizards alike, and if so, I hope to see you and your wizards and witches at Harry Potter Camp this summer! It's going to be super fun!

  1. This is an AWESOME idea! I would have loved to attend a camp such as this when I was young, I still want to attend! Great idea for ways to get Children interested in reading. I'd be happy to help think up other ideas for immersion in the Harry Potter Experience with you all!
